Dal Fry is a simple yet soul-satisfying concoction, featuring lentils, commonly yellow or red dal, cooked to tender perfection. What elevates this dish to culinary stardom is the meticulous tempering of spices – cumin, mustard seeds, garlic, ginger, and an array of aromatic herbs – dancing in unison to create a symphony of flavors. The result is a harmonious balance of textures and tastes, offering a delightful experience with every spoonful. Here is dal fry three ways


INGREDIENTS -1 ) Red lentils 1/2 cup [Masoor dal ] 2) yellow lentils [Moong dal ] 1/2 cup 3) Two medium sized tomatoes 4) One onion 5) Coriander leaves 6) Coriander powder 7 ) 1/2 tsp red chilli powder 8) 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste 9) 1/2 tsp Indian spice mix [ Garam masala ] 10 ) 1/4 tsp asafetida [Hing ] 11 ) Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp 12) turmeric powder 13 ) few curry leaves 14) oil 2 tablespoon 15 ) salt to taste. 16) 4 red chillies 17) Dry methi leaves (kasuri methi )one tsp [optional ]

METHOD – Wash dals, tomatoes and cut tomatoes in small pieces. Take a pressure cooker add dals into it, pour one and half glass of water or double the amount, add tomato, cook dal until done or till tow whistles. Blend cooked dal with a hand blender properly. Now take a pan add oil let heat, add onions fry till golden brown, add ginger -garlic paste, add turmeric powder, chilli powder ,coriander powder, garam masala saute a bit, now add dal and mix well .Add salt to taste check the consistency add some water if needed.

Now take a small fry pan add two tsp of oil in it, and let heat ,Add mustard seeds, let splatter , add curry leaves let splatter then add red chillies off the stove. pour this oil on dal and your dal is ready.


INGREDIENTS – 1) Mix vegetables of your choice [ green, peas , carrot, cauliflower ] one cup 2) One medium sized tomato 3) One onion 4 ) mix dals [ lentils ]red 1/4 cup yellow 1/4 cup and pigeon peas 1/4 cup 5) Two table spoon oil 6) Indian spice mix 1/2 tsp [garam masala ] 7) Indian kanda [ onion ] lasun [ garlic ] masala chuteny one tsp 8) 1/2 tsp chilli powder 9) Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp 10) few curry leaves 11) fresh coriander leaves 1/2 cup. 12) 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic Paste 13) salt to taste.

METHOD – Wash and cut vegetables. wash dals and cook in cooker until done. After dals cook vegetables in cooker until one whistle. Cut tomato, cut onion, coriander leaves. Now, take a fry pan keep it on medium high flame, add oil let heat. Add mustard seeds,let splatter ,then add curry leaves let splatter, now add onion fry until golden brown, add ginger-garlic paste, add tomato fry for sometime until tomato is cooked. Now add kanda-lasun masala, turmeric powder, chilli powder and Garam masala mix everything properly and then add mix vegetables and dals and half of coriander leaves let cook until one boil, let boil for a minute then add remaining coriander leaves. if u want to add kasuri methi you can its optional. Here the mix vegetable dal is done.


INGREDIENTS – 1) One cup lean boneless chicken 2) Three brinjals ( Eggplants ) 3) 1/4 cup red lentils ( masoor dal ) 4) 1/4 cup pigeon peas ( tooar dal ) 5) 1/4 cup yellow lentils ( moong dal ) 6) One onion 7 ) one tomato8 ) 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves 9) Oil two tablespoon 10) Chilli powder 1/2 tsp 11) turmeric powder 1/4 tsp 12) Chicken masala powder one tsp ( use Everest or any other of your choice ) 13) One tsp Indian kanda-lasun masala 14) 1/2 tsp jeera (Cumin ) powder 15) 1/2 tsp coriander powder [optional ] 16)salt to taste.

METHOD – Wash brinjals and cut into small pieces. Wash chicken and cut into small pieces. Wash dals and put into a cooker, add chicken and brinjals .Cut tomato and add to cooker, now cook all these ingredients together until done three to four whistles will be enough. Cut onion and coriander. Now take a pan and add oil heat oil and add onion, fry till golden brown now add ginger-garlic paste and half of coriander leaves. Now add chilli powder,kanda- kanda-lasun masala, chicken masala, turmeric powder, jeera and coriander powder and ginger -garlic paste mix well, now add cooked dal, chicken and brinjal mix everything add water according to your preference. Add salt to taste. Garnish with remaining coriander leaves. Chicken- brinjal dal fry is ready

Tips – while cooking dals add water double the amount. You can add salt while cooking dal if you add salt while cooking dal while making dal check salt and then add if you need more. while cooking chicken and dal add salt while cooking dal with chicken, then if you need add some. If you want to give tadka after cooking dal fry use less oil while cooking I mostly don’t give tadka. For better taste reduce Oil and add half tsp ghee after cooking. Although ghee is more better than Oil try using it in minimum amount. Live happy, live wholesome 😊
